Aims and objectives

Hong Kong has long been hailed as a gourmets’ paradise with tens of thousands of eateries offering from Hong Kong-style yum cha to international cuisines. Efforts of catering practitioners play a crucial role. However, according to the Labour Department of Hong Kong, the number of work-related injuries in the catering industry is the highest among all industries. Common accidents involve slips, burns, fires, and injuries caused by hand tools. As a gourmet’s paradise, we shall not focus only on the appearance, flavor and taste of food, but also on our employees’ safety and health.

To raise catering workers’ awareness of occupational safety in the catering industry, the video series “OSH Master Chef” is created. “OSH Master Chef” and “The Princess of Taste”, played by celebrity chef Mr CHAN Kwok-keung and renowned artist Ms Angela TONG respectively, are inspired by two iconic characters from the classic Hong Kong comedy film "The God of Cookery". The “OSH Master Chef” always finds a way to satisfy the stringent demands of “The Princess of Taste” through his excellent execution of catering safety measures. By watching the video series, audiences are reminded to follow these simple yet important safety measures when working in the kitchen.

The recreation of the humorous film characters and catchy lines successfully conveyed easy-to-follow catering safety tips to the audiences. According to rating report, this video series is estimated to reach a cumulative audience of 29 million people during its initial broadcast on Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) channels from December 20, 2021 to January 14, 2022. This video series would continue to reach a diverse audience during its rebroadcast on TVB channels from November 28, 2022 to December 30, 2022, and via online social media platforms.
