In 2017, the annual joint key campaign of the German Road Safety Council, the accident insurance funds and the employers' liability insurance associations dealt with the topic of weather as a cause of accidents by using the slogan Risk Check "Wind and Weather",

Within the framework of this campaign, teaching modules and seminars as well as an action video were designed for use in companies, educational institutions and schools (secondary level II, driving schools). In addition, all insured persons could take part in a raffle within the campaign period.

Objectif et finalité

What would happen if you do not notice dangerous weather in time and react accordingly, or if you do not inform and prepare yourself in advance? The possible consequences are shown in this video.

Due to slipperiness, impaired visibility and gusts of wind, many traffic accidents happen every year. In addition, adverse weather conditions influence our performance.

The actual influence of the weather on the occurrence of accidents is difficult to estimate, as numerous overlapping facts influence each other. The traffic accident statistics of the Federal Statistical Office provide some clues. According to these statistics, in 2015 approximately eight percent of the causes of traffic accidents involving personal injury were attributed to so-called general causes of accidents such as weather condition or slippery roads. It can be assumed, however, that the influence of weather on the occurrence of accidents is considerably more extensive than is shown in the accident statistics.
