Product description

The film traces the career of Bernard Chadebec, graphic-designer at INRS for 40 years. Chadebec enables us to understand what a security poster is and gives us an insight into how the graphic-designer communicates messages through his artwork. The documentary situates his art in a social and artistic context. After having collected the testimonies of Chadebec as well as of specialists, the film director gives a portray of his artwork in four illustrated sequences. This third sequence approaches the creativity of the graphic-designer who had to renew himself during his 40-year career by developing posters and messages on the same subjects (such as tobacco).

Aims and objectives

A poster on prevention, as shown by Chadebec, permanently needs to be innovated. How can a poster be renewed by presenting for years certain messages on prevention? Several attempts progressively appear in a freedom of expression that one could envy today. For example the use of codes, like the abstract presence of personalised animals, allows the innovative graphic not to make the worker feel guilty by using the full range of tools and stressing the humour in order to encourage the message of prevention to be spread and recommended.

In 2016, the film is presented to the visitors of the exposition dedicated to the piece of work of Bernard Chadebec at the Ecomuseum in Creusot-Montceau (France). This film was directed by Ludovic VIEUILLE.
