The BGN app for apprentices “Embarking on a career – fit and healthy” is a smartphone app which specifically addresses apprentices in the restaurant sector. By means of a leading figure, the development of a positive self-perception of the apprentices is encouraged. As figureheads, among others, the star cook Juan Amador and the cook of the year Christian Sturm-Willms could be gained to tell in short video interviews about their training period. The app offers background information and interactive tools on the topics career, stress and relaxation, sleep, nutrition and exercise: Thus, among other things with the help of a test, you can find out more about your sleeping habits and develop your optimal sleep rhythm. Or you learn more about healthy eating – even if you work shifts. Of course, qualified apprentices can also benefit from the contents. The app is supposed to assist young people during the transition from school to work. Therefore, it is particularly addressed to apprentices in their first year of training. In the framework of the project INDIGHO (innovation and demographic change in the catering and hotel business), the app has been developed by the statutory accident insurance food and catering industry (BGN). The objective: companies of the hotel and catering industry are supposed to be supported with offers that can help to keep today’s and future specialists in the catering industry. From 2012 to 2015, the project was funded by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research and by the European Social Fund of the European Union.
Target audience
Apprentices and young employees who learn a profession in the hotel management (cooks, restaurant specialists, hotel specialists)
