Product description

“I lived at night” is a 2D animated short film and animated painting. It tells the story of Christopher, a young man constantly threatened by a black hole that consumes all positive emotions, leaving only negativity around him. One day, he can no longer fight against this increasingly powerful gravitational pull and is totally absorbed. Miraculously, he emerges on the other side, where he finally sees the light and a less dark world appears before him. He then embarks on a difficult battle, confronting his demons - eyes that never cease to observe and oppress him – both the eyes of others and his own gaze on himself. As he struggles, these projections, which reflect a perception of the world damaged by the black hole, will gradually fade and lose their strength, allowing him to finally begin to live.

Aims and objectives

"I lived at night" is a short film that addresses a challenging and often stigmatized subject depression. This taboo topic can be frightening, as it represents a poorly understood and unsettling world that many wish to dismiss quickly. Demonstrating resilience is crucial, particularly when battling depression. Christopher's testimony is compelling because it gently illustrates a gradual path back to life and provides an optimistic perspective on a difficult situation. His strength lies not only in his recovery but also in his courage to openly discuss his experiences and expose his vulnerability. The docu-animated format is an apt choice for conveying the depth of emotion present in the story. It is this spirit of sharing and willingness to help that I find in the project proposed by the producers Kéota and Diana, as well as the directors Sonia Velvien and Paola de Sousa. “I lived at night” is part of the transmedia project Voices of Hope, which includes a collection of short animated films. Christopher’s full testimony can be found in the accompanying podcast at the following link: https://voix-despoir-552a50.webflow.io/temoignages/christopher
