Product description

The educational film consists of four episodes, which can also be used independently. An apprentice is at the centre of each episode. He talks about work-related noise and how to deal with it. Not the perfect but the real conditions at work are shown. Each episode of the film is linked to a teaching suggestion of the teaching concept for vocational teachers and approaches a specific subject. Episode 1: "Noise and Ear Protection" Apprentice Tom, 17, works in a filling line for bottles. Being confronted with noise every day, he has to protect his hearing. His training company provides ear protectors. Episode 1 introduces the subject "Noise Reduction and Hearing Protection" and gives an answer to fundamental questions: what is noise and which rules and measures exist in order to prevent any damage of the hearing? Episode 2: "A lot of fuss about me" Can, 18, is training as a metalworker. Since he is confronted with noise every day, hearing protection is part of his work. The main issue of this episode is the personal perception of noise. The episode is considered to sensitise the target group for everyday noise and the perception and estimation of sound pressure levels. The key message is that even if the noise is generated elsewhere, ear protectors are important at work. Episode 3: "Quiet Noise" Sarah, 19, makes an apprenticeship to become an industrial clerk. Even if there seems to be no apparent risk, office workers are also confronted with everyday noise. With this episode, the apprentices are informed on extra aural noise with disturbing effects on work and damaging effects on health. Episode 4: "No Excuses: Ear Protectors!" Nicolas, 28, is completing an apprenticeship as a car mechatronic. In order to protect his hearing, he uses earmuffs or earplugs for many activities. The episode informs the apprentices on various types of ear protection and encourages them to take responsibility for their own when protecting the hearing.

Aims and objectives

With the film "Noise and Control", the prevention programme "Young people want to experience themselves" ("Jugend will sich-er-leben" - short JWSL) wants to encourage apprentices to deal with the issue occupational safety and health. This year, the target group is to be informed on the issue "Noise Reduction and Ear Protection". In this context, the film is not supposed to warn the apprentices from the pedagogical point of view but to pick them up in their not always perfect everyday working life and show them protective measures and possibilities. Furthermore, background information and explications on the auditory system and the context of noise impact and health damage for a comprehensive understanding of the issue. In order to incite the apprentices to actively deal with the issue, each episode of the film concludes with a question addressed to the target group.

JWSL ("Jugend will sich-er-leben" / "Young people want to experience themselves") - is the prevention programme of the German Statutory Accident Insurance (Deutsche Gesetzliche Unfallversicherung - DGUV). At the same time, they shall be motivated to safety and health conscious behaviour. Concerning the annual topic, the prevention programme contains a training concept with five training suggestions for teachers of vocational schools, two proposals for a teaching concept, a film and five explaining animated films, a DVD, a website and various competitions.
