German Road Safety - App

Title translated into English

German Road Safety - App

Product submission URL (http:// or https://)

Product description

The multilingual and free App for Apple iOS and Android imparts the most important traffic rules in a vivid way. The German Road Safety App places emphasis on easy-to-read texts in combination with moving images to make the user experience as pleasant as possible and to facilitate listening and processing of the contents included in the seven chapters. Numerous animations with voice output illustrate typical situations in road transport and provide valuable information and hints for safe behaviour. The intention of the App is to point to hazards and difficulties in road traffic. However, this is not done in a negative or scaring way – the App rather wishes to encourage the target group to become mobile. Still, the App cannot and is not designed to replace a "driving test". The information provided by the App was deliberately kept simple and aims at giving guidance in key areas. The App is available in German, English and Arabic. Further language versions are already in the pipeline. For an online version of the App please visit www.germanroadsafety.de. Aims and objectives

Many traffic rules are new for persons arriving in Germany and certain situations in road transport are different from those in their home countries. How does local transport work? Where am I allowed to ride my bike? And who has right of way? The German Road Safety Smartphone App gives answers to these and many other questions. The App is free, available in several languages and was developed by the German Road Safety Council (Deutscher Verkehrssicherheitsrat, DVR) with the support of the German Social Accident Insurance Institution (Deutsche Gesetzliche Unfallversicherung, DGUV). The objective is to make refugees – and other persons as well – become acquainted with the most important traffic signs so that they are able to apply the basic traffic rules and to use streets, cycle lanes and footways more safely.

Mobility is an important precondition for participating in public life. It is a fundamental human need – no matter in which culture we were socialized. The German Road Safety App aims to enable persons from other countries to actively and safely take part in German road transport and in social life. Attending a German language course, a sports event or travelling to work every day – being mobile is a key prerequisite – and a core element of successful integration. From the very first day in Germany, road safety plays a crucial role in the daily life of immigrants. Many immigrants are not familiar with the German traffic system and linguistic barriers make the safe participation in public transport even more difficult. This leads to dangerous situations in road transport affecting both immigrants and all other road users. Key traffic rules must be imparted in order to prevent accidents.
